Auvers sur Oise - GivernyBefore Vincent Van Gogh and Docteur Gachet, it was Daubigny who gave this little village on the banks of the Oise its page in the history of painting. In Daubignys House, the former studio is decorated with 100 square meters of murals painted by himself with the advice of Corot. When Van Gogh arrived in Auvers, he lived in the Auberge Ravoux until his suicide. The Auberge has become a dedicated site to his memory, The church recalls one of his paintings and in the cemetery which must be visited, Vincent Van Gogh and his brother Theo rest in peace under a covering of ivy. Leaving from Auvers sur Oise, you will pas through The Impressionist Country to Giverny. From 1883 until his death in 1926 (at the age of 86), Claude Monet rented a house and worked in the small village of Giverny. This house and the magnificent gardens are open to the public, they are famous since they are often the subject of Monets studies. It is the action and the will of Mrs Wallace since 1980 helped by Mr Van Der Kemp, The Chateau de Versailless commissioner, in The Claude Monet Foundation which allow everyone to appreciate the artists talent. You will see originals from 19th and 20th centuries in the American Impressionist Art Museum near by. |
